MARK: FOLLOW THE LEADER

A Hard Road to Greatness, Mark 8:31-9:1

Big Idea: True greatness isn't found in saving your life; it’s found in losing your life for Jesus.

1. Don’t try to edit Jesus (v. 31–33)

• The cross was the plan, not an option.
• We try to rebuke Jesus when He contradicts our plans.
• Step behind the leader.

2. Trade your control for a cross. (v. 34–35)

• Denying self means giving up the wheel.
• The cross is not an accessory; it was a method of dying.
• We must let go to truly live.

3. Don’t trade eternity for earthly gain (v. 8:36–9:1)

• Worldly success = terrible math.
• Stand boldly in a compromised land.
• Jesus took the cross; we get the crown!

“Salvation is God’s gift to us because Jesus died for us on the cross. Discipleship is our gift to Him as we take up our cross, die to self, and follow the Lord in everything.”
